A Mention of Kashmir in Pak-Saudi Conversations During Shehbaz Sharif’s Umrah Journey. Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have stressed the importance of talks between Islamabad and New Delhi to resolve their “outstanding issues,” especially the Kashmir issue.

This was mentioned in a joint statement released the day following an official meeting between Saudi de facto ruler Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at Al-Safa Palace in Mecca on April 7.

According to the joint statement, their talks focused on strengthening the brotherly ties between the two countries and looking into ways to increase cooperation in a number of areas.

The statement mentioned that they also talked about the issue of Kashmir.

In order to maintain peace and stability in the area, it stated that “the two sides stressed the importance of dialogue between Pakistan and India to resolve the outstanding issues between the two countries, especially the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.”

For a long time, New Delhi has maintained that Kashmir is a bilateral matter between India and Pakistan and that any third-party mediation or involvement is not relevant.

Jammu and Kashmir “was, is, and shall forever” remain an essential part of India, the country has informed Pakistan on numerous occasions. India has stated that it wants peaceful, neighborly relations with Pakistan that are free from violence, hatred, and terror.

The Gulf Kingdom’s supportive role in Pakistan’s economy and the two countries’ shared goal of fostering stronger trade and investment ties were also highlighted in the joint statement.

As stated earlier, “Both parties affirmed their commitment to expediting the first wave of investment packages worth $5 billion.”

Along with exchanging opinions on matters of mutual interest, the two leaders discussed the concerning state of affairs in Gaza and called for international action to stop Israeli military operations there and lessen their humanitarian effects.

In line with pertinent Security Council and General Assembly resolutions, “they discussed the need to advance the peace process in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative aimed at finding a just and comprehensive solution for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.”

The Crown Prince accepted Prime Minister Sharif’s invitation for Bin Salman to make an official visit to Pakistan.

On Saturday, Sharif made his first international trip to the Kingdom along with a group of senior government officials to perform Umrah and meet with the rulers of Saudi Arabia.

Separately, Radio Pakistan said that the Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Sharif reiterated their shared commitment to enhancing bilateral relations between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. The two leaders acknowledged the positive trend of the long-standing fraternal ties between their nations.
