Aaron Finch: The RCB vs. SRH game was one of sixes, not of batsmanship

According to Australia’s T20 World Cup-winning captain Aaron Finch, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s barrage of sixes in their IPL match left little room for batsmanship, and what mattered was who hit the most. On March 27, in Hyderabad, SRH defeated the Mumbai Indians 277-3 with a record-breaking 287 for three thanks to a century-plus innings from Travis Head and a devastating 67 from Heinrich Klaasen.

38 sixes were hit throughout the park as RCB lost despite Dinesh Karthik smashing a scorching 35-ball 83.

There was never going to be a conversation about batsmanship in this game. According to Finch on Star Sports, “It is a game where you talk about who hit the most sixes, and that was the difference.”

“The runs per over (RPB) had to start at 14. Additionally, it goes to 16 if you have one bad over.” According to Finch, Hyderabad made good use of the Powerplay segment.

“Travis Head made the difference there for SRH, who were getting lucky in the first powerplay and needed those sixes.

“He got things going early, with the intention of setting the tone, and then he showed courage by sticking with Klaasen at number three, signaling that we had a strong batting lineup and would not back down from this challenge,” Finch continued.

Head’s devastating century, which he achieved off 39 balls, was the foundation of SRH’s 25-run victory and the fourth fastest in the tournament.

Finch stated that as they play fearless cricket, IPL teams have begun to alter their tactics by bringing in big-hitters like Klaasen up the order.

“Teams frequently believe that Klaasen can be stopped because he has so much strength in the back end. You do not want to expose someone like RCB’s Glenn Maxwell just yet, because if he gets out, we will have to rebuild. Teams no longer operate in that manner.

Dan Vettori, the coach of SRH, has discussed playing aggressively, playing fearlessly, and accepting responsibility if things do not work out. If it does go right, you don’t lose.” Dinesh Karthik once again underlined his value, making a 35-ball 83 at a strike-rate of 237. Finch said the ability to strike the ball comes naturally to Karthik, given his more than two decades of experience in the game.

“Well, you do not lose that batting ability once you have twenty to twenty-five years of experience under your belt and that large number of balls you have hit since you were five years old.

Therefore, I believe it benefits them because they train, especially for the role they play on their team. They just train deliberately; they do not overtrain, they do not try to get better at what they do, or they do not improvise anymore, Finch said.

The cricketer from Victoria further stated that individuals who are ready to be precise about their roles can learn from athletes such as Karthik.

“Players everywhere should take note of this and learn that you need to be extremely detailed in your planning and approach.

“Regardless of how well you are playing, you are going to find it difficult if you walk out to the middle with a clouded mind or are not fresh.” You can hit as many balls as you want.
