On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked the opposition for claiming that if he were to win a third term in office, the Constitution and democracy would be in jeopardy. He also claimed that Article 370’s abrogation guaranteed that the country’s laws would be applied uniformly.

Speaking at a rally in Nagpur district’s Kanhan town in support of ruling alliance candidates seeking the Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra from Nagpur, Ramtek, and Bhandara-Gondiya, the prime minister said that the soul of the chief architect of the Constitution, B R Ambedkar, must be thanking him for undoing Article 370, which granted Jammu and Kashmir special status.

The front-runner for the BJP, Amit Shah, questioned whether democracy had not been threatened during the Emergency (1975–77) and accused the opposition of misleading the public by claiming that the Constitution would be altered if he were to win a third term in office.

The prime minister claimed that the insults directed at him by the opposition would only serve to increase the number of Lok Sabha seats held by the BJP-led NDA.

This was PM Modi’s second visit to Vidarbha, where this week’s first phase of voting is scheduled for April 19. He conducted a campaign for BJP candidates Chandrapur and Gadchiroli-Chimur on Monday.

Why was the Constitution not in effect nationwide until Article 370 was repealed (in 2019), if it was so important? Because it was lenient toward separatists, the opposition opposed the abrogation, he said.

PM Modi stated that while Dalits and tribal people in the Union Territory were disregarded by the Congress for vote-bank politics, they now have constitutional rights as a result of Article 370 being repealed.

The prime minister claimed the opposition parties were “vikas virodhi” (anti-development) and opposed to the nation’s “virasat” (heritage).

Proud of his government’s accomplishment of repealing Article 370, he declared, “Ambedkar’s soul must be blessing Modi.”

He addressed the assembly, stating that his work over the previous ten years had only served as an appetizer and that the main course was still to come as he sought another term in office to carry out his development agenda. “Your dream for the next five years is Modi’s sankalp.”I dedicate every moment of my life to your well-being and the advancement of our nation. 2047, round the clock,” he declared.

The BJP stalwart stated that the purpose of the next elections is to fortify India’s foundation for a millennium rather than merely electing Members of Parliament.

“You will vote on April 19 to fortify India’s foundation for the next 1,000 years, not just to elect a candidate,” he said.
