Andre Russell In an IPL match on Saturday, Kolkata Knight Riders overcame a slow start to post an overwhelming 208 for 7 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Andre Russell unleashed his fury with an unbeaten 25-ball 64 after Phil Salt’s solid fifty. After failing to secure a bid at the auction, Salt was selected to replace Jason Roy. He reached his third IPL fifty in just 38 balls, but Mayank Markande (3/39) dismissed him as he attempted to accelerate. Out of 40, the Englishman scored 54. Russell began his match against Markande by hitting three sixes in five balls, sending the SRH leg-spinner deep into the stands. When Aiden Markram made a stunning catch at long-on, Markande briefly believed he had the last laugh, but replays revealed he grounded the forward diving catch, giving Russell a break on 20.

Bhuvneshwar swung the ball both ways in an opening over that was a peach, cramping Salt and Sunil Narine for space with just three runs conceded. The world’s No. 2 T20I batter picked up Marco Jansen’s release of arms and proceeded to hit three consecutive sixes in the off-side corridor, surprising the lanky South African pacer. But after yet another clean-up by Bhuvneshwar, Cummins made a smart captaincy move by bringing in Natarajan, and KKR unexpectedly lost Narine owing to a mix-up.Lofted shots proved to be a great success as he removed Venkatesh and the captain, Shreyas, who was making a comeback, in three balls. While Cummins put on a show at long-off, Natarajan changed his length to trick Venkatesh, and Shreyas—who missed the previous season due to a back injury—was out for a two-ball duck.

After KKR vice captain Rahul Tripathi’s easy catch at backward point reduced KKR to 51/4 in eight overs, Markande also got in on the action in his opening over, foxing Nitish Rana with a googly.Despite this, Salt held his ground with the helpful assistance of rookie Ramandeep Singh, who scored an entertaining 54 runs with him early on.After pulling off a short one for a six, Ramandeep hit Cummins hard for a boundary. And before Cummins removed him at 17 balls and 35 runs, he hit three more sixes off Markande, Jansen, and Shahbaz Ahmed. The cooperation made Russell and Rinku’s final attack possible.
