Arvind Kejriwal’s Bail for Ignoring Summons in the Liquor Policy Case

Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court has granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, preventing him from being arrested for allegedly ignoring probe agency summonses related to the Delhi excise policy scam. For the bail, he was required to provide a security bond of ₹ 1 lakh and a personal bond of ₹ 15,000.

When the Delhi Chief Minister ignored the Enforcement Directorate’s repeated summonses in the alleged Delhi excise policy scam, he broke Section 174 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with disobeying a legal order to be at a certain place in person or by agent.

The Enforcement Directorate informed the court that the Chief Minister had ignored eight summonses issued under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The Enforcement Directorate wants to question Mr. Kejriwal in relation to the Delhi excise policy case, so the court summoned the head of the AAP.

At the case’s April 1 hearing, Arvind Kejriwal will not have to show up in person.

Mr. Kejriwal disregarded the ED’s summons and charged that the Narendra Modi administration was targeting opposition leaders with the help of central agencies.

The Chief Minister was summoned by the ED late in February and asked to come in for questioning on March 4. But Mr. Kejriwal said he would only appear via video conference, eschewing the “illegal” summons.

However, the financial investigation team demanded that he show up in person and stated that virtual questioning is not permitted.

Leading AAP figures, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, have been detained by the ED in connection with a money laundering investigation involving the now-canceled excise policy in Delhi.

Post a commentThe name of Mr. Kejriwal appeared several times in the ED’s charge sheets. The agency said that the accused in the case were in touch with the Chief Minister when the excise policy was being drafted
