In Mannat, actor Anjum Batra, who portrayed Kesar Singh Tikki in Amar Singh Chamkila, talked candidly about his first encounter with superstar Shah Rukh Khan. Anjum Batra claimed to have met the Dunki star while assisting the actor with the Punjabi dialogue for the Imtiaz Ali-directed movie Jab Harry Met Sejal. In an interview with TV9, Anjum discussed SRK’s welcoming demeanor, saying, “I first met Imtiaz in 2016.” Shah Rukh had to work on a few Punjabi dialogues while he was filming Jab Harry Met Sejal. I went to Mannat with Imtiaz. Mannat’s library was where Imtiaz, SRK, and I were. We chatted the entire evening and even completed a little work.”

Anjum reported that, due to filming, SRK arrived at Mannat fifteen minutes after he and Imtiaz arrived at eleven p.m. Anjum went on, “I was told to sit right beside Shah Rukh. “No, I will sit here, it is okay,” I replied. No, he urged, “come and sit close to me.” They just listened to me talk for hours on end. He is an excellent host. ‘What will you eat?’ he asked. He handed me a menu. I declined because I was not eating meat at the moment. He then demanded that I share some pav bhaji with him, though.

In the meantime, critics have praised the leading actors’ performances as well as the film’s original narrative choices. During his appearance on The Great Indian Kapil Show, Diljit Dosanjh talked about playing the iconic character, saying, “I used to think that because I am from Punjab, I would understand Chamkila better.” However, once I met Imtiaz, I gave myself over to him entirely. Thanks to his in-depth study and homework on Chamkila, Imtiaz had everything down, including how he stood, spoke, reacted, and even thought.”
