After meeting with President Joko Widodo of Indonesia, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that the company will “look at” manufacturing there. This comes at a time when the iPhone behemoth is actively diversifying its supply chain to move away from China.

“We talked about the president’s desire to see manufacturing in the country and it is something that we will look at,” Cook told reporters after the meeting.

“I believe Indonesia offers limitless opportunities for investment. I believe there are many excellent places to make investments. We are also making investments. We have faith in the nation.”

Apple has been making a greater effort to diversify its manufacturing base outside of China over the last three years, ever since the Covid-19 pandemic revealed the Cupertino giant’s dependence on the second-largest economy in the world.

Since then, Apple has made an effort to diversify its manufacturing base.

As one of Apple’s largest manufacturing hubs outside of China, Vietnam has benefited greatly. There, goods like the MacBook, iPad, and Apple Watch are produced. Cook spent earlier this week in Vietnam.

Apple has increased its production in India as well.

As per a Bloomberg report, Apple now produces 1 in 7 or 14% of its iPhones in India, which is twice the quantity it did the previous year.
