What information can we glean from the ECI electoral bond data?
As directed by the Supreme Court, the Election Commission of India posted the electoral bond data on its official website on March 14.
The name of the business or individual is the only identifier on the donor side in the electoral bond data that was made public yesterday. We looked up donor companies’ unique IDs, performed an exact name match with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs’ (MCA) database, and examined the basic information that MCA had on hand in order to learn more about them. Here are a few of the conclusions.
Who makes the largest donations?
According to the data made public, 1,260 businesses and individuals paid ₹12,769 crore for electoral bonds. A total of ₹5,945 crore, or almost half of the total amount donated through electoral bonds, came from the top 20 companies.
The largest individual donors are who?
With ₹45 crore in total donations, Ms. SN Mohanty is the largest individual donor on the list. Lakshmi Niwas Mitttal, who contributed ₹35 crore, comes after her. The top ten individual donors are listed below.
Businesses with required minimum capital
We were able to obtain an exact name match with the MCA database for about 500 companies. Of these, forty-three companies had capital subscribed at the required minimum of ₹1 lakh. These are the top ten bonds bought.

We were able to obtain an exact name match with the MCA database for about 500 companies. Of these, there were 28 companies that were set up on or after April 12, 2019, when the first electoral bond was purchased. These are the top 10 purchasers of electoral bonds among them.
Purchased bonds compared to net profits
Thirteen out of the top twenty buyers of electoral bonds had financial information available to us. According to their net profits, this is how their bond purchases appear.
