During the match between RCB and KKR, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli use an internet-breaking embrace to put the past behind them.

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs. Kolkata Knight Riders IPL 2024 match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru was touted as the match between Virat Kohli and KKR coach Gautam Gambhir. This was their first encounter since that notorious night in Lucknow last year, which shocked the cricket world with their ugly fight during a match. Nevertheless, on Friday during the RCB-KKR game, the two put an end to their feud with an embrace that went viral.

Videos of the incident at the Ekana Stadium, where Gambhir was the Lucknow Super Giants’ mentor, were played multiple times in the run-up to the game, and experts offered their opinions on it. During that IPL 2023 match last year, Kohli and LSG bowler Naveen-ul-Haq got into a fight, which prompted the umpires to step in. The two later shared an intense handshake at the end of the game. Soon after, an ugly altercation broke out at the stadium between Gambhir and Kohli, who were later seen charging at each other. Eventually, players from both teams intervened to keep the two apart. The BCCI brought serious charges of misconduct against all three of them.

But after the 16th over ended, Kohli and Gambhir hugged and spoke briefly before grinning at each other during the timeout. As Gambhir walked by and gave him a hug, Kohli was sipping water and talking with his teammate. The India great grinned during their brief conversation before returning to the KKR dugout.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri erupted in the commentary box as he watched the million-dollar scene, saying, “Good to see… Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli.

On Friday, when RCB was given the opportunity to bat first at home, they lost their captain Faf du Plessis early on in the game as KKR fast bowler Harshit Rana tricked the opener with a slower delivery. After that, Kohli and Cameron Green put up a 65-run partnership for the second wicket, and Glenn Maxwell provided valuable support during a 42-run partnership. Kohli reached his half-century knock in 36 balls, complete with two boundaries and three massive sixes, on his way to the second major partnership. During the onslaught, the cameraman had captured Gambhir looking melancholic in the dugout.

Kohli scored his second half-century in the current IPL 2024 after hammering 77 off 49 against Punjab Kings at the same stadium the previous week.

In the tournament thus far, RCB has managed to win one and lose one. They were defeated by Chennai Super Kings in their season opener at the Chepauk on March 22, but they triumphed over PBKS at the Chinnaswamy after mounting a strong comeback. Now, RCB wants to defeat KKR at home for the first time since 2015.
