Harshit Rana, the pacer for the Kolkata Knight Riders, may have saved the day with his outstanding final over in Saturday’s four-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad, but his dismissal by Mayank Agarwal has put him in hot water. After dismissing the SRH opener earlier in the innings, Rana lost his composure and gave Mayank a flying kiss as he made his way back to the dressing room.
Many people expressed dissatisfaction with the send-off on social media, and the BCCI acknowledged the incident by fining the pacer 60% of his earnings on Sunday. The board verified that Harshit Rana has been punished for violating the IPL Code of Conduct in a statement issued after the match.
In a statement from the BCCI, it was stated that bowler Harshit Rana of the Kolkata Knight Riders was fined a total of sixty percent of his match fees for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on March 23.

“According to Article 2.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct, Rana committed two Level 1 offenses. For each of the two offenses, he was fined 10% and 50% of his match fees. Rana took the match referee’s punishment after acknowledging the two infractions. The match referee’s decision is conclusive and enforceable for Level 1 violations of the Code of Conduct.”
Mayank maintained his composure as he stared at Rana before eventually moving away, stopping the situation from possibly getting worse even though fans were criticizing Rana for his celebration. Sunil Gavaskar, a former captain of India, expressed disappointment in the young, uncapped pacer from India for his actions.
“That was a bad thing for him to do. When he was hitting him for sixes, did the batsman do anything to help him? These kinds of antics are not necessary to play cricket. This is the television era. I recognize that. Gavaskar had stated, “Celebrate with your teammates, but do not need to engage in such antics for the opposition.”
Rana saves KKR with heroism.
But it was Rana’s last over that gave KKR a thrilling victory over SRH in the match. Despite some excellent power-hitting from Heinrich Klaasen and Shahbaz Ahmed in the last couple of overs, the pacer conceded 13 runs in the final six deliveries of the match. In the first game of the season, Rana led the Knight Riders to victory by dismissing both batters in three deliveries and defeating captain Pat Cummins on the last delivery.
