What actions did Boult, the Mumbai Indians team, and Rohit Sharma take? When Rohit Sharma made his way back to the storied Wankhede Stadium on Monday for the Mumbai Indians’ (MI) opening home game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season 2024, many people had high expectations for him. In the tournament’s 14th game, Hardik’s MI take on Sanju Samson’s Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Wankhede Stadium. Hardik’s MI is considered the league’s perennial slow starter.

Former India opener Akash Chopra backed Rohit to boost MI’s campaign from their first home game of the season, setting up a tantalising match between the two past champions. Rohit, who was enjoying his IPL comeback as a pure batsman, received the call to bat from his former teammate Trent Boult when RR invited Hardik’s team to bat. At Wankhede, Rohit accomplished an unwelcome feat by dismissing the former MI captain for a wicket.

The IPL’s lowest hitter is Rohit Sharma.

Rohit secured his 17th call-up, writing a questionable record in the richest T20 league in the world. Both Indian batsmen, Dinesh Karthik and the 36-year-old, have tied the record for most ducks scored in a T20 tournament. Following Rohit and Karthik is Piyush Chawla of MI, who has 16 ducks to his credit. Sunil Narine (16), Glenn Maxwell (16), and Mandeep Singh (16) are among the other names on the list.

At Wankhede, Trent Boult riots

With the final ball of his opening over, Boult got rid of Rohit, setting the tone for the bowling attack of the 2008 champions. Samson, the RR captain, dismissed the former MI captain with a deft catch. In the next ball of the same over, Boult dismissed Naman Dhir, calming the visitors at Wankhede. After Boult dismissed Rohit and Dhir for a golden duck, MI was down 1-2 in the opening over. Interestingly, Boult has taken the most wickets (25) in the first over of an IPL innings since the 2020 edition.
