Delhi, New: K Chandrashekar Rao, the former chief minister of Telangana and president of Bharat Rashtra Samiti, received a notice from the Election Commission of India on Wednesday regarding his “derogatory” comments he made during a press conference regarding the Congress Party.

In response to Congress leader G Niranjan’s complaint, the Election Commission observed that KCR had broken the Model Code of Conduct on April 5 during his press conference in Sircilla when he was criticizing the Congress party.

The Commission also mentioned that KCR had received a number of warnings and directives concerning his speech even earlier.

With the announcement of the general elections for the Lok Sabha on March 16, 2024, the Election Commission of India (EC) on Tuesday enumerated the steps the poll body had taken since then.

Of all the complaints, 51 were from the Bharatiya Janata Party (for which 38 cases resulted in action) and 51 from the Congress (for which 51 cases resulted in action), according to information released by the EC.

The complaints received from other parties were 90, out of which action has been taken in 80 cases.

In order to keep the political parties on an even playing field, the European Commission (EC) highlighted a few “exemplary decisions” that they made in the final month of the Model Code of Conduct.

The poll body said that they have taken a firm stand to uphold the dignity and honour of women by issuing notices to the leaders of parties who made derogatory and offensive remarks against women.
