Kejriwal in the Delhi High Court: “Amend to prevent me from taking part in the election.”

The Delhi High Court heard Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s appeal against the ED’s arrest in the liquor policy case on Wednesday. Kejriwal’s lawyer, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, told the court that Kejriwal’s arrest was timed to undermine democracy because it would keep him from participating in the election process. Before a single vote is cast, the arrest is an attempt to destroy the Aam Aadmi Party. “Level playing field is not just a phrase, word but has three components—-it is part of free and fair elections which, in turn, is part of democracy and basic structure,” Kejriwal’s attorney said, casting doubt on the necessity of his arrest. The decision to boycott the election and attempt to destroy the political party before the first ballot is cast is blatantly symptomatic of a timing problem. The timing reeks of basic structure, democracy issue, free and fair elections issueThe timing reeks of basic structure issue, free and fair election issue and democracy issue. What is this urgency or necessity?
