Kriti Sanon On The Box Office And Crew’s Success: I Hope People Take A Chance Investing In A Woman-Led Film

Actor Kriti Sanon is hoping that more big-budget films featuring female leads will be made possible by the success of her most recent film, Crew. The film, which has made over Rs 100 crore worldwide in just nine days of its release, stars the National Award winner, who was last seen in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, alongside Tabu and Kareena Kapoor Khan. In the heist comedy Crew, directed by Rajesh A. Krishnan, three air hostesses take control of their own fate after their airline declares bankruptcy. It also stars Diljit Dosanjh, Kapil Sharma, Rajesh Sharma, Saswata Chatterjee, and Kulbhushan Kharbanda.

Movie makers often believe that audiences are not drawn to “female-oriented” films, according to Kriti Sanon. “A movie does not need a man to lead it in order to draw people in. People have long avoided taking the chance of rating female-oriented movies as highly as they do male-centric ones. They believe they will not make their money back from the theater’s lack of attendance.

“Hopefully, this response to the crew marks the beginning of a shift. I am hoping that eventually people will venture to finance and scale a female-led movie to the same extent as they do a male-led movie since that will likewise translate into similar box office results,” she continued.

The 33-year-old actor gave the example of 2022’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, a large-scale film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali that was well-received both critically and commercially. It is interesting to note that for their roles in Mimi and Gangubai Kathiawadi, Kriti Sanon and Alia Bhatt shared the National Film Award for best actress.

“For want of a better term, he (Bhansali) portrayed his female character as a hero. Generally speaking, budgets are tighter for movies with exclusively female leads. People do not think those movies would entice moviegoers to the theaters in the same manner as a man-led picture does.

“There are not many expectations. The level of belief is low. In order for things to change, that belief must become stronger. You should think that the film will succeed if you create the same content for the female-led picture because it is so good,” she continued.

Now, Kriti Sanon is anticipating the release of Do Patti, which also serves as her Blue Butterfly Films production debut. This year, Kriti Sanon and her Dilwale co-star Kajol will reunite in the film, which will debut on Netflix.

“Do Patti’s filming has concluded. We are currently editing something. Considering the complexity of the movie and the number of locations I had to visit for it, we wrapped up production on it rather quickly. For this movie, I performed a small amount of Bharat Darshan in numerous hill stations. I have traveled everywhere, from Mussoorie, Nainital, to Manali,” she remarked.

Producing Do Patti was a great learning experience, according to Kriti Sanon. Films that express subjects close to my heart will always be my goal to produce. Generally speaking, it is critical to give women more chances. There is a dearth of writers for women, particularly after a certain age, compared to the abundance of writers for men. However, that does not mean I am limited to any one genre; the stories must have some warmth and heart,” she continued.
