PM Narendra Modi breaks down in Salem when talking about “Auditor” Ramesh. Who was this guy?

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke down in tears and momentarily stopped talking to pay tribute to a deceased BJP leader who was fatally hacked in 2013.

Modi remembered three people connected to the district, including the late BJP leader KN Lakshmanan, while speaking at a public rally in Salem.

He became emotional, though, when discussing “Auditor” Ramesh.

PM Modi said, “Today, I remember Auditor Ramesh,” and then took a more than minute-long break from speaking.

After a brief period of silence, the audience began yelling Modi’s name.

PM Modi started up again and said, “My Ramesh of Salem is not among us, unfortunately.”

“Ramesh put in a lot of day and night work for the celebration and was a skilled speaker. But he was killed,” he continued, honoring the BJP leader who passed away.

Who was Ramesh, the “auditor”?

V. Ramesh was the party’s state general secretary and an auditor by trade. He was based in Salem. On July 19, 2013, unknown attackers attacked the 52-year-old BJP leader close to his home using sharp-edged weapons. Around nine o’clock at night, the BJP leader had gone to his office to discuss party matters. According to the police, four people attacked him as he was walking back to his home.

Narendra Modi, the chief minister of Gujarat at the time, had called to ask about the murder.

Five government buses were stoned by protesters, and the authorities were forced to declare a holiday in schools, which heightened tensions in the area.

HT revealed in October 2013 that during a rally in Tiruchi, then Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa received no appreciation from BJP leader Narendra Modi. TN BJP leaders said that Modi was not too happy with the state government for the lack of progress in the probe into the killing of Auditor Ramesh.

The prime minister also remembered the late Lakshmanan’s contributions to the party’s expansion in Tamil Nadu and paid heartfelt tributes to him.

“We shall never forget Lakshmanan ji’s involvement in sociocultural events and his role in the anti-emergency movement. His contribution to the BJP’s growth in the state will never be forgotten. He added that he also founded a number of schools in the state.
