Based on official data, domestic air traffic reached a new all-time high of 4,71,751 passengers on Sunday.
Sunday’s traffic was over 14% more than the pre-Covid average of 3,98,579 vehicles.
According to data from the civil aviation ministry, as of April 21, there were 4,71,751 domestic air passengers and 6,128 flights.
This exceeds the 4,28,389 passengers and 5,899 flights in domestic air traffic that were registered on April 21, 2023.
The ministry stated that domestic aviation in India is “every day at a new high” in a post on X.
“Unprecedented growth in domestic aviation is occurring in India as a result of several factors, including the establishment of low-cost carriers, economic development, and proactive policies. The industry is anticipated to keep growing as more people have access to air travel,” it stated.
The aviation regulator, DGCA, announced last week that the number of passengers carried by domestic airlines from January to March 2024 was 391.46 lakh, compared to 375.04 lakh in the same period the year before. This represents an annual growth of 4.38 percent and a monthly growth of 3.68 percent.
