Six polling places in the Outer Manipur Parliamentary constituency have had their polling for the Lok Sabha elections declared “void” by the Indian Election Commission. According to a press release from the Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur, new polling will take place in these stations on Tuesday, April 30.
848 polling places in 13 of the 28 Assembly segments under the Outer Manipur Parliamentary seat held voting on Friday. Together with the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha seat, the other fifteen Assembly segments had cast their votes in the first round on April 19.
Citing an order from the Election Commission, Manipur Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Pradeep Kumar Jha urged voters to turn out in large numbers at these six polling places on Tuesday.
Election officials said that various disturbances occurred in these six polling stations on Friday, prompting the EC to order fresh polling on Tuesday.
Almost 82% of the approximately 4.85 lakh eligible voters in the remaining areas of the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency cast ballots on Friday.
Eleven booths in Manipur were sent for reelection even in the first phase due to reports of booth capturing, firing, intimidation, and EVM destruction.
