At the box office, Maidaan has finally surpassed the ₹25 crore threshold. On day seven, the Amit Sharma-directed film brought in ₹1.65 crore, as per a Sacnilk report. Tickets for the biographical sports drama have sold for ₹25.26 crore so far (special previews and day 8 collections included). The Indian football team’s manager and coach, Syed Abdul Rahim, was described in Maidaan. He led the team from 1950 until his passing in 1963. Under his direction, the Indian football team became the first Asian football team to reach the semi-finals of the 1956 Summer Olympics and won two gold medals in the Asian Games in 1951 and 1962. Ajay Devgn plays the lead role of Syed Abdul Rahim in the film, while Priyamani and Nitanshi Goel also have important parts.

Ajay Devgn discussed how Maidaan challenged him as an actor during the film’s trailer launch event. He said, “Football was lost somewhere after 1983” (alluding to India’s victory in the cricket world cup). The fact that this occurred in our nation astounded me. Our director, Amit Sharma, conducted a great deal of research. It is not just a sports movie, in my opinion. There is a lot of drama in it. It was a movie with a lot of layers for an actor. Aside from sports, it has a powerful emotional drama. It was nice to work on a film like this again after a long time. I thoroughly enjoyed it.”

“Watching a match at home on TV or when you are playing somewhere new makes you feel incredibly excited and youthful. It becomes really thrilling. After a year of training by Amit, all of the boys are incredibly skilled football players. I just have one sequence; I have not played football on screen,” Ajay Devgn continued.

Maidaan received a score of 2 out of 5 stars from Saibal Chatterjee, who also commented, “Team India Hain Hum, a song from the movie, is instantly out of date. The Indian football team was known as the Indian football team back in the 1950s. Decades later, as a branding exercise, “Team India” was born when the country’s sporting bodies partnered with corporations to promote different disciplines following economic liberalization.

Saibal Chatterjee went on, “Maidaan resorts to a variety of well-known tics to intensify conflict.” When Rahim is about to lose hope due to some shocking news, a woman gives him some encouragement. The film’s climax, India’s 1962 Asiad participation, casts doubt on the man’s ability to make the right decision for his son. Rioting and sloganeering on the streets and in the stadium occur when Jakartan crowds turn against Indians. For the team, everything that can go wrong does.”
