In advance of his team’s Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), star Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Surya kumar Yadav spoke candidly about his “boring” recovery process following an injury he suffered in a match against South Africa last December. He also discussed the changes he made in his life as he prepared to return to professional cricket. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, two of Indian cricket’s biggest stars, will square off against RCB and MI in a thrilling match at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

Every squad is looking to win. While MI beat Delhi Capitals (DC) to win their first game after three losses, RCB looks to snap a three-match losing streak after losing to Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their most recent match.

In his first match since December, Suryakumar made a comeback to the world of competitive cricket by taking on the Delhi Capitals. Although he was going after a duck, he would surely be eager to take on RCB.

Speaking in a video posted by the official X (previously Twitter) account for the IPL, Suryakumar disclosed that he was dealing with two to three niggles at the same time, in addition to an ankle injury, a sports hernia, and a right knee injury.

“I am really glad to be on the ground. I had to take it one step at a time and pay attention to the little things. It is wonderful to be back. There is nothing like returning to Wankhede,” Suryakumar remarked.

The world’s best T20I batter claimed that at first, his rehabilitation was monotonous since he was tired of repeating the same activities, but that eventually, he came to understand the value of rehab. He was inspired to become the “second version” of himself by a conversation he had with his wife and staff at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). He began to sleep on time and adopted a healthy diet in order to get much better.

To be honest, describing the past three or three-and-a-half months has been a little challenging. The first two to three weeks of the rehab were challenging because, in his words, “I found it very boring to do the same things over and over again.”

Nevertheless, I realized that it is crucial moving forward by the fourth or fifth week. It was crucial for me to choose my return strategy.”

“Everyone at NCA, including my wife, told me that when I returned to the field, I needed to be a slightly different version of myself—a second version of myself. “The most crucial thing was that I started doing all those little things like eating a healthy diet and going to bed on time,” he said.

According to Suryakumar, he even began reading books, something he had never done before, and he linked his physical and mental recovery to his efforts to improve himself.

“I (had) never read a book in my life and I started doing that as well. Getting up early, spending quality time at the rehab facility, concentrating on everything, and integrating my body, mind, and mind with the program all helped me to heal a little quicker,” the man stated.

“I knew what areas I wanted to focus on after getting hurt, and that was becoming a better version of myself. I have two to three months to work on both my body and my fitness,” he continued.

He also said that he would watch only half of the matches of his team so as to sleep on time.

“Watching your team play while you are seated in the other room is never easy. I can not say that I did not watch the games; in fact, I watched half of them between 10:30 and 10:45 p.m. when I was in Bangalore, according to Suryakumar.

“It was challenging, but it also served as a great source of inspiration and motivation for me to work really hard on my recovery and get there as soon as possible because they are playing there,” he continued.

The player known to his fans as “SKY” expressed his happiness to be back at his home arena, Wankhede, stating that he felt like he was there with the team from the beginning of the tournament after his first practice session.

“This place was the beginning of my cricket journey, and even after I entered the hotel and the ground, I never felt as though I had left,” he remarked.

“It felt like I would been here since the IPL started on the first day when I did my practice session with the boys and everyone around,” he continued.

Suryakumar conveyed his gratitude to the NCA personnel for their assistance during his rehabilitation.
