According to police, a 23-year-old YouTuber was detained after he allegedly entered Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport, made a video, and then made up the story that he had spent the entire day there.

On April 7 at about 12 p.m., Vikas Gowda, a resident of Yelahanka in Bengaluru, entered the airport with a ticket for an Air India flight to Chennai, according to reports.

He did not board the flight “deliberately,” according to the police; rather, he was taking videos with his phone while wandering the airport.

He posted the purported video on April 12 to his nearly 1.13 lakh-subscriber YouTube channel, where he made up the story that he had visited the airport for the entire day and had sneaked around the grounds, fooling security personnel.

He later removed the purported video.

“He arrived at Kempegowda International Airport’s Terminal 2, passed through security, and made his way to the boarding lounge. However, he spent almost six hours at the airport wandering around the property rather than boarding the aircraft, according to a senior police officer.

He left the airport after taking the video, telling the security guards he had missed his flight. He claimed that the security staff did not suspect him because he was in possession of a valid ticket and boarding pass.

According to an early investigation, he did it for attention, and he also said that the things he said in the purported video were overstated.

The issue was brought to the attention of airport security staff on April 15. Based on a complaint from a member of the Central Industrial Security Force, a case was filed against Mr. Gowda under the Indian Penal Code’s Sections 505 (Statements conducing to public mischief) and 448 (house trespass), and the officer stated that he was taken into custody.

Later, Mr. Gowda was freed on bond, according to the police.
